Provincial Grand Lodge of Dorset

Dorset Masonic Reference Library

library is a resource for reference and research and we are fortunate in having such a facility available at the Dorset Provincial Museum.

It exists for the use of all Brethren and visitors are welcome on Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday mornings between 9.30am and 12-noon.

An impressive selection of books and manuscripts covering a wide range of topics associated with Freemasonry provide an excellent centre for research and study.  In addition to over 1000 publications covering Freemasonry in general, our Library includes many documents specific to the Province of Dorset such as "Transactions" of the Dorset Masters' Lodge No. 3366 containing collections of lectures devised and presented by members of the Lodge together with a wide range of "Dorset Masonic Calendars" of historical interest.  An impressive number of "Transactions" of the national research Lodge, Quatuor Coronati, are also available for inspection.

The Library is kept up to date with material being shared as it becomes available.  This allows Brethren wishing to investigate the social, historical and cultural impact of Freemasonry to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to an individual and equips them to better "promote the art" during their Masonic journey.

All publications on display which are available for inspection "in house" may also be taken away on loan by members for more leisurely study at home.

Under certain bona fide circumstances, and for the purposes of historical, cultural or academic research, access to the Library may be afforded to non-members by prior arrangement.

The Library is situated on the first floor of the Provincial Museum and access is by stairs only.  Admission is free and the Curator and staff will always be pleased to assist with enquiries.
