uring his year in charge of his Lodge, the Master, assisted by the Brethren, will raise money for the charities of his choice, Masonic and non-Masonic.
In recent years most of the charities selected by Masters have been local non-Masonic charities. Worthy causes such as Somerset and Dorset Air Ambulance, Julia’s House, Weldmar, About Face, and Help For Heroes have benefited from the fund-raising undertaken by Masters during their year in office.
However, with the focus of the Province of Dorset now firmly on the 2014 Festival,Lodges are being asked to consider the Festival as their primary charity objective.
This does not mean that local charities will suffer as a result; ultimately local charities benefit from the Central Masonic Charities being supported by the Festival system. The Festival system is therefore just another way in which Freemasons help those in the local community.
Charity
Charity is an essential element of a Freemason’s life. For more information about our charitable work, see the Charity section of this website.
Non-Masonic Charities
Freemasons do not restrict their charitable work to help other Freemasons; they also support local worthy causes and major national and international non-Masonic charities. See the Non-Masonic charities section for more information.
